The Trip Beautiful is the creation of Oakland, California based photographer and photo archivist Sara Ferguson. Its content relates to travel, history, memory and nostalgia, the ways that societies interact with the landscape, and the artifacts of that use. Its structure seeks to tell the story of a place- the links between past and present, and the connections between one place and another. Through the symbols and stories that connect us, the details of our surroundings give form to personal histories, structures provide references for memories, and specific landscapes allow for a universal language about loss and hope, truth and beauty.

The name The Trip Beautiful is inspired by a brochure for the sightseeing boat Nikko. The Nikko operated out of Miami Beach during the 1940s and 1950s, touring passengers through the islands of Biscayne Bay. In the spirit of the Nikko, The Trip Beautiful serves as a metaphor for exploring our environments in meaningful ways, whether they be exotic or the everyday.
